Requiem
By Robert Louis Stevenson Adapted by Stephen Spitzer Rearranged by Jeff Seeber
I laid me down on a pillow hill, Exhaling my last with a peaceful will. I watched my breath drift into the sky, Glad did I live and glad did I die.
Where the Stars and Stripes at half-staff fly, Dig me a grave and let me lie. And this be the verse you write for me, Here he rests where he longed to be.
Forever in ranks with those who knew, Many live free because of the few. Surrounded by honor on every side, By those who were young, but old as they died.
Home is the Sailor, home from the sea, Home shall the warm winds carry me. Home is the hunter, home from the hill, Far away where Taps sounds still.

This adaptation of Requiem was prepared for the interment ceremony of a U.S. Navy Vietnam Veteran who was buried in a National Cemetery.
